Very sick will be denied health care

After reading the article, i pesonally feel that the decision made is cruel and selfish. However, in times of a pandamic when existance is the factor itself, sacrifices are inevitable. i personally feel that very elderly, seriously hurt trauma victims, severely burnt patients and those with severe dementia paitents should not bedenied medical aid unless in case of severe circumstances.

The lack of scarce medical resources had made rationing of healthcare during major outbeak of diseases necessary. This is because, the amount of medical care that hospitals and doctors can provide are limited. This had hence led to people who are listed on the 2nd priorty list to be denied of help. Indeed, people would want to save paitents who have the chance to survive instead of wasting resources on a dying paitent.

Although iIt is said that it was an "emotionally difficlut"task for the people involved in compiling the list, i feel that such a decision should only be made in dire situations e.g. in a case of a pandamic.

Pharmaceutical companies- Obligations

The topic of discussion for this week is about obligations in pharmaceutical companies.. Firstly obligations is defined as: The act of binding oneself by a social, legal, or moral tie. i personally feel that the basic obligation of a pharmaceutical company is to ensure the health and safety of their consumers. Products from companies that are in the pharmaceutical industry, such as Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline need to meet certain standards before they are sold to the consumers. Detailed and stringent quality control checks are necessary to ensure that each and every pill that reaches the consumer is safe for consumption and meets its purpose.
Personally, i feel that there is one such company which follow such obligations. that is Abbot.
Abbot is a global, broad-based health care company that is devoted to discovering new medicines, new technologies and new ways to manage health. Their products span the continuum of care, from nutritional products and laboratory diagnostics through medical devices and pharmaceutical therapies. Their comprehensive line of products encircles life itself – addressing important health needs from infancy to the golden years.
It can be clearly seen that Abbot is having the customer's health care at 1st. The promise of the company is in the promise that their work holds for health and for life. i feel that this act is necessary as a pharmaceutical company is formed on the basis of creating health care products that would help save and improve people's lives.
A company cannot go on without money. Another obligation that i feel is important for a pharmacutical company is indeed money itself. Each and every company in the world needs money to sustain and go on. when a pharmaceutical company makes money, they will not only make money for the company and its investors. But also be able to invest in research to produce more cost effective and useful drugs which will help improve lives of their consumers.

Organisations

Ok.. this week i will be talking about organisations.. do bear with me as this is going to be a very long post.

From the dictionary, organisations can be defned as
-A structure through which individuals cooperate systematically to conduct business.
-The administrative personnel of such a structure.

Well i am going to talk about the famous terrorist group Jemaah Islamiya (JI) which has created quite a commotion since the escape of Mas Selemat.
Ok here is a brief discription of the JIgroup and their brief history.
.
.For decades, the Indonesia-based Jemaah Islamiyah has expounded its idea of amalgamating Indonesia, Malaysia and the southern Philippines into a regional Islamic state. Kumpulan Mujahideen Malaysia also has the same ambition.

.
.Jemaah Islamiya is a Southeast Asian terrorist network with links to al-Qaida. The network plotted in secrecy through the late 1990s, following the stated goal of creating an idealized Islamic state comprising Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the southern Philippines, and southern Thailand.
.
.The name Jemaah Islamiyah dates to the late 1970s, but experts aren’t certain if the name referred to a formal organization or an informal gathering of like-minded Muslim radicals—or a government label for Islamist malcontents. The group has its roots in Darul Islam, a violent radical movement that advocated the establishment of Islamic law in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country and also home to Christians, Hindus, and adherents of other faiths. Darul Islam sprang up as the country emerged from Dutch colonial rule in the late 1940s, and it continued to resist the postcolonial Indonesian republic, which it saw as too secular.
.
Militant islamic group active in Southeast Asia that seeks to etablish an Islamic fundamentalist state in the region. J.I. is allegeed to have attacked or plotted against U.S. and Wesern targets in Inodnesia, Singapore and the Philippines. Several J.I. members have been jailed for the planning of the October 12, 2002, bombing that killed 202 people in Bali. J.I. is also suspected in the August 5, 2003 bombing of the J.W. Marriott hotel in Jakarta that killed 12.
.
I personaly feel that such cruel acts of terrorism should be stopped. I have never agreed with the selfish acts that terrorists do. their actions have brought about much hurt and suffering to many innocent people. Just because they oppose the U.S. and want to spread and establish an Islamic fundamentalist state in the region, does not give them the right to hurt and harm innocent people.
.
The case of sucide bomers, bombing up themselves in order to assassinate a person of high profile, or to bomb up places, had increased my awareness on terrorism. People who have the same ideal or belief tend to come together to form an organisation. I feel that an organisation should be formed on the stand that its actions will benefit society and not to cause unnecessary harm on others. For example, the World Wildlife Foundation is a group of international organisations that have come together to form a global organisation with a common goal to build a future where people live in harmony with nature.
.
Orgasnisations like the WWF are good in such a way as they are not only a non-profitable organisation, they acts have indeed benefited not only society, but nature and the environment itself. I feel that organisations like these should be encourgaed and formed, and not terror organisations like the JI which bring about unnecessary hurt to many innocent people.
.

University Education for Polytechnic students

Well the topic of discussion for this week is >> University Education For Polytechnic Students.

It can be clearly seen that more and more polytechnic students are now entering universities. In the past, only a small percentage of polytechnic students acctually made it into a local university. Polytechnic students in the past are trained in such a way that they are prepared and equipped with the necessary skills which will prepare them for entering the workforce. However, it is a totaly different thing now.

Today, the teaching objective for polytechnics is not only to prepare the students for entering the workforce, but also to prepare and encourage the students who want to pursue a university education. I feel this is very benefical to us. As compared to the Junior Collage (JC) students, we are more people and project orientated. With the large amounts of projects that we do, the different tasks that we poly students do in our course of education had made us totally different from JC students.

In a JC, a student can afford to slack for the whole year and at the last lap , put in effort to achieve a good grade in his final examinations. however this is not the case for polytechnic students. In Poly, we need to do and achieve good grade continuously for all our semesters to make sure that we will get a good grade at the end of the year. This difference in the education system had made JC students have a upper hand in handeling university education. In university, one is expected to "CHIONG"... and the JC students are good at this. Therefore to prepare the polytechnic students who are interested and are meant on entering university, i feel that the school should conduct prepartory courses or talks to enhance the students knowledge on university education.
Further more, i feel that the ration of intake should be:
  • 40% JC Students
  • 40% Poly Students
  • 20% Foreigners
Currently for some courses which are offered in the universities, Poly students who hold a diploma in the similar course of study, might have a chance to skip the 1st year and proceed to the 2nd year of study. however, this is only possible if the student has the required "RESULTS"..

On the whole, i feel that each and every individual has the chance to enter university , may it be a JC or POLY student. entering the university is not an easy feat and much hard work is needed to be done before one can acctually pursue what he wishes.

Please feel free to comment ..Thanks
